Crossing Borders

The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and its Core Values

People are crossing borders more and more often, not only national borders but those between academic disciplines and between man and technology.

Globalisation and the rapid development of information technology have led to new forms of co-operation. Flexible networks of added value are making new demands on qualifications and what is expected personally of students, academic and non-academic staff.

It is on these borders, on the intersections of different disciplines, that innovations increasingly emerge.

In fact synergies only emerge where areas which otherwise would be separate can come together.

From this arises the necessity to orientate ourselves in our collective and personal activities not separately but in an integrative and therefore interdisciplinary direction.

At the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences academic excellence and integrative competence are the aims and basis of our teaching and research. –

Our guiding principles are

Partnership. Students, academic and non-academic staff are partners. Mutual respect and the will to achieve consent are a matter of course, even when attitudes, opinions and tasks differ. –

Tolerance. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences is a place where people from different cultures can meet, inspire and encourage each other without prejudice. -

Sustainability. No generation should live at the expense of the following generation. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences takes and teaches ecological and social responsibility –

Location. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences intends to promote the social, structural and economic development primarily of the “Lower Rhine Region” and also to contribute to the international reputation of its location. –

Transparency. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences makes knowledge and technology accessible to the interested public. It supports the discourse of topics of general, special, regional and international relevance. –

Networks. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences promotes contacts between the current students, academic and non-academic staff and alumni as well as the exchange with other national and international universities, companies and institutions. –

Added Value. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences uses the available means and resources to the very best effect for its aims in research and teaching. –

Competition. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences regards competition among universities as motivation and as an opportunity to continually improve the quality of teaching and research. Competitiveness ensures the University’s attractiveness as a partner for national and international co-operation with universities, companies and institutions. This process is supported by an internal aim- and performance-orientated university management. –

Success. High-class academic and integrative teaching and research as well as intensive personal tutoring create an excellent basis for the students’ success in the future and - by doing so - also for the success of the University.  –
