Clothing Technology

Students who choose Clothing Technology as their field of study can specialise either in the core study area of Product Development or in Clothing Management.

The core study area in Clothing Management trains young engineers and professionals for the highly diverse and versatile range of technical and business administration tasks in the clothing industry. Students get to know about manufacturing and process technology in the areas of classical clothing, workwear and protective clothing as well as technical textiles. In addition, students are provided with the foundations of ergonomics and aspects of factory planning. Sustainability, quality management and ecology are also part of the study content (curriculum).

Studies in Product Development focus on teaching comprehensive knowledge and skills in all fields of the textile supply chain. Students learn how the planning, control and logistical handling of relevant processes in the clothing technology industry can be organized. Furthermore, they are familiarized with the core areas of style development such as clothing construction, pattern design and grading, so that graduates are able to implement models for specific target and product groups after their studies. Production-related study contents, as well as lectures and courses on product data, quality and personnel management complement the studies.

Double degree

In regards to the Bachelor's degree course, it is possible to obtain the exclusive German-Chinese double degree in "International Textile and Clothing Management" in cooperation with the Tiangong University, PRC China.

Clothing Technology as a dual study

The course of studies in textile and clothing technology with the focus on clothing technology can also be completed as a dual study program. The dual study combines practice and theoretical knowledge in a unique way. In parallel to the undergraduate studies, the students are going through a training course in an industrial company, especially designed to complement the studies.

Practical- or foreign study semester with Erasmus+ | London

"I particularly appreciate the practical orientation of the Clothing Technology degree programme. The opportunity to work in the university's various laboratories is very valuable and the practical semester allows you to gain international experience in industry, which makes it easier to start your career. For this reason, I decided to complete my compulsory internship in London. This helped me both personally and professionally. Above all, I had no trouble learning English vocabulary on site. My tasks there included creating, plotting and grading patterns, as well as cutting samples. I can highly recommend gaining practical experience abroad to everyone and would advise being open to all kinds of companies (small labels as well as large fashion chains) when searching. It is also important to look for financial support early on, as an internship in a city like London can be very expensive."

"Through my stay abroad in Mexico, I have become much more cosmopolitan and flexible. Not only do you get used to a foreign culture with all its peculiarities, but you also learn to look at things from a completely different perspective with a global mindset. This and of course the very good language skills in Spanish will always be useful to me after my studies. That's why I can really recommend everyone to take advantage of this great opportunity during their studies. For me, the year in Mexico was one of the most valuable and beautiful experiences I was able to have during my studies."
