Special literature and copy templates are compiled by lecturers for certain courses. These collections are called "reserve material" or “reserve collections”. It is presented as one coherent collection and marked as confined material. Items from this collection can only be used in the library. Making photocopies and scans is possible.
For lecturers: If you are a lecturer at the Hochschule Niederrhein and want to create a new collection of reserve material, please contact the library staff at the service counter in your library.
For more information about reserve material, please read the FAQ.
For students: Next to the link to the FAQ you will find lists of the literature compiled by your lecturer in the library's reserve collections, sorted by department, last name of the lecturer and name of the reserve collection.
1. What is reserve material?
Lecturers compile a list the literature that is most relevant for their courses in a reserve collection and present it in the library. The electronic list of reserve material gives you an overview of the existing reserve collections and the literature they contain. The lists can be accessed through the library’s website.
2. Can the items from the reserve material be borrowed?
It is not possible to borrow any of the items (exception: short-term loan until 9 a.m. on the next opening day). This ensures that as many as possible students can use them during the library's opening hours. You can use them anywhere in the library and make photocopies and scans. The literature that belongs to the reserve material is marked as "not loanable" in the library catalogue.
3. Where can I find information about the contents of the reserve material?
The list of electronic reserve material for all existing reserve collections is primarily sorted by department, secondly by the lecturers' last names and thirdly by the name of the individual reserve collection. It gives you a quick overview. The number in brackets indicates of how many items a reserve collection consists of. Example: 02 Volkmann: Future Research (12).
If you click the link connected to an item, you find general information on it above. Below you find brief information (author or editor plus title) about the item. If you click the title, you find more detailed information on the respective item in the catalogue. Above the title information you can select your branch. By clicking the links you can also access more detailed information, e.g. tables of contents. The catalogue viewer is also helpful if you want to find out if there are more items available for loan.
4. Where and how is the reserve material presented in the library?
Reserve collections are presented as locally coherent collections in the library, sorted by department. The library staff will gladly assist you finding them in the library. The items belonging to the reserve collections are marked with a white stripe and a number on the spine. The shelves are marked with information on the respective reserve collection.
Please contact the library staff for further information.
